Younger learners from Highgate Hill House School enjoyed an engaging educational visit to RHS Garden Rosemoor on Tuesday 5th May, where they took part in the Fantastic Foods Workshop focused on plants, vegetables and gardening.
Throughout the day, learners explored how food is grown through a range of interactive and sensory-based activities designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and outdoor learning. The workshop provided learners with opportunities to develop their understanding of plants and vegetables while engaging with nature in a practical and meaningful way.
As part of the experience, learners invented their own imaginative plants, explored where different vegetables grow and planted radish, peas and beans to bring back to school for the development of the school’s vegetable garden.
The visit also included sensory activities where learners used their sense of smell to identify a variety of herbs, alongside a vegetable garden scavenger hunt around the grounds of RHS Rosemoor. These activities encouraged teamwork, observation skills, scientific thinking and sensory exploration within a stimulating outdoor environment.
Kerry Taylor, Principal of Highgate Hill House School, said:
“Educational visits such as this provide incredibly valuable opportunities for our learners to explore the world around them through practical, hands-on experiences. The Fantastic Foods Workshop encouraged curiosity, creativity and confidence while supporting sensory development and outdoor learning. We are extremely proud of how positively our learners engaged throughout the day.”
The visit forms part of the school’s wider commitment to providing enriching educational experiences that support personal development, wellbeing and engagement beyond the classroom.
