Highgate Hill House School Champions Sustainability with Plastic Clever Schools Initiative

Highgate Hill House School in Devon, part of the Melrose Education group, is celebrating the positive impact of its growing sustainability work, following the school’s successful participation in the Plastic Clever Schools initiative.

Learners have been exploring ways to reduce single-use plastics and make more environmentally friendly choices both in school and at home. As part of their efforts, the school has invested in reusable metal water bottles for all learners, a small but meaningful change designed to reduce waste and promote lasting eco-conscious habits.

The initiative is part of Highgate Hill House School’s wider commitment to environmental responsibility, helping learners understand how their everyday actions contribute to protecting the planet.

Kerry Taylor, Principal at Highgate Hill House School, said:

“Our learners have really embraced the Plastic Clever Schools project and shown great enthusiasm for reducing single-use plastics. Providing reusable bottles was a natural next step in supporting this commitment. It’s wonderful to see our learners making thoughtful, sustainable choices, not only at school but also in their wider lives.”

Highgate Hill House School continues to build on its environmental work through learner-led projects, outdoor learning, and community engagement that encourage responsibility, independence, and pride in making a difference.
