Our full-time program is underpinned by the National Curriculum.
We place great emphasis on developing the core skills necessary to become a competent, independent learner and a successful adult.
All students access our classroom learning curriculum but differentiated for their age and learning needs.
Our subjects/topic areas are Maths, English, Science, ICT, Humanities, Personal Social & Health Education (PSHE), PE, Music and Art & Design Technology.
Art & Design
WHAT MAKES OUR PROGRAM UNIQUE
All students engage in a daily literacy session, where they develop their reading and comprehension, with a particular focus on spelling, handwriting, punctuation and grammar. Younger children follow a phonics programme called, ‘Letters and Sounds’.
We are a dyslexia-friendly school and through our regular assessments, can identify students with a persistent difficulty in developing their literacy skills.
We will work together with students, their parents and other professionals to define the precise nature of their difficulties, provide them with the best possible support and help them to understand that they may learn differently from others. Also, students have a daily numeracy lesson.
Some aspects of the curriculum and learning are taught through cross-curricular themes and others through discrete lessons. We aim to ensure that learning is exciting and meaningful.
We know that students who have issues with learning can also have low self-esteem and problems with social relationships. Our holistic approach to school life helps our students to develop their social and emotional aspects of learning.
Some of our students have autism or are on the autistic spectrum.
We work closely with our Educational Psychologist to ensure they are supported to be successful learners.
